Scientific Cultivation Training on Fisheries, Tomatoes & Potato: A joint venture of Young Mission Adventure Club (YMAC)-Yomcha, ICAR RC for NEH Region A.P. Centre Basar, and KVK West Siang District at Yomcha village, West Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh.

 

One day awareness-training programme was organized by Young Mission Adventure Club (YMAC)-Yomcha as a lead organizer sponsored by NABARD, in technical assistance with the resource person of ICAR RC for NEH Region A.P. Centre Basar and KVK West Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh under the banner of “Scientific Cultivation Training on Fisheries, Tomatoes & Potato” at Yomcha village on 4th May’ 2016 (latitude-28º7’57”108, longitude-94º 34’14”358, and altitude-694 meter MSL). In the programme total 84 numbers of agri-horti-fish growers from the villages of Yomcha circle were participated actively. At the beginning, an interactive thorough discussion were carried out regarding critical management aspects of low cost input fish culture technology (composite fish culture and duck-fish culture); envisages the usage of liming, manuring, feeding, and water-soil quality parameters for higher fish production deliberated by Rahul Das, Scientist (Aquaculture). In another session the scientific cultivation of tomatoes-potato (preparation of soil, soil sterilization, preparation of bed, planting of seedlings, pest-disease management and harvesting), polyhouse construction and off season cultivation of vegetable under polyhouse were profoundly discussed by Smt. Deepa Lal, SMS (Horticulture) among the food-growers, emphasising on intrinsic and extrinsic factors influencing higher production and productivity among the food-growers. Interesting motivating information regarding Farmers’ Club and SHGs functionaries with its rule in the societal upliftment along with the market linkage working processes were delivered by Debashish Datta, SMS (Extension). Water pH was demonstrated and tested in ranged between 6.8-7.6 using Waterproof pHTestr-10 kit, accordingly the fish-growers were benefitted the information regarding required lime for their ponds. Similarly a standard practise of preparation of bed, planting of seedlings of tomatoes and potato was also demonstrated in demonstration section. Local WRC-rice germplasm (local name-Yade Amo), ginger variety (local name-Kekir and Kete), turmeric variety (local name-Haldi Red and Haldi Kala), and maize variety (local name-Tepe Remi) was also identified and collected. We acknowledge our sincere thanks to Mr. Yomjum Yomgam (Chairman of YMAC) for inviting us and arranging such programme. Immense interaction among the food-growers led towards the sharing of valuable information and thoughts regarding organic cultivation systems, thus the programme was fruitful in true sense towards sustainable resource utilization and food production.
